Long Time Customers, Significant Growth Give IWI Plenty of Reasons to Celebrate
In 1994, Forrest Gump was the number one movie, Seinfeld was the top TV show, O.J. Simpson was running from the police in a white Ford Bronco, and Interstate Warehousing opened for business in Cincinnati (Hamilton), Ohio.
Two of our customers have been with us since the opening of the 127,000 square foot first phase of the facility on May 26, 1994, AdvancePierre and Schwan’s. Both have greatly increased the volume of product in our facility as the building has grown over the last 20 years.
The facility was designed to primarily serve as a distribution center for multi-stop consolidation to supply foodservice customers, with a significant portion of that business intended for school lunch programs. That business model is still true today. Items such as hams, hot dogs, popsicles, pizza, butter, cheese, hamburgers and appetizers have been stored at this facility throughout the years. In fact, around the time of professional football’s biggest game each year, approximately 16.5 million frozen pizzas are stored inside the building.
Since the year 2000, working 24 hours per day and 364 days each year, IWI Cincinnati has assembled an average of more than 41,000 orders per year, and has shipped more than 6 billion pounds of freight! The facility and its staff have earned numerous awards, and have recently achieved Safe Quality Foods (SQF) Level 2 Certification.
The current building footprint is 444,000 square feet (13,920,000 cubic feet) with 55,162 pallet positions and82 dock doors.
